The Marina Alta

Of this town we recommend the old part, a very well preserved medieval cobbled complex; the Abargues House Museum, built in the 16th century. Bolulla and Les Fonts de l’Algar

Following the CV715, after Tàrbena we find Bolulla, a small mountain village where the Les Penyes Strait is, an aquatic ravine formed by the Algar River, ideal for practicing aquatic canyoning, and above all we have Les Fonts de l'Algar, a natural humid space declared RAMSAR. With a 1.5 km route, we can enjoy waterfalls, fountains and springs, and natural pools suitable for bathing.

Capital of the region, it is a coastal city known for its beaches, for its gastronomy, which combines rice and seafood, for the historical complex of the old part and for the Castell de Dénia , of Roman origin and very well preserved.

The Coll de Rates, Tàrbena and Casa Pinet

The Coll de Rates is a viewpoint located on the CV715 road, going from Parcent towards Tàrbena, in the section in which the road ascends the Sierra de Bèrnia. It offers panoramic views of the entire region. Next is Tàrbena, a small town of 800 inhabitants perched on the mountains, and where it is worth visiting Casa Pinet, a historic restaurant in these lands.

The Petracos Pla

Set of cave paintings protected by UNESCO; belonging to the Mediterranean arc of the macro-schematic art of the Levant. In the next town, Castell de Castells, which is also worth a stroll through its streets, is the MARQ room, the Alicante Archaeological Museum, dedicated to the site. Next to the Pla de Petracos is the field hermitage that the armies of the Tercios of Naples built to pray during the campaign to expel the Moors from the Vall de Laguar in the 19th century. SXVII.

Guadalest

Little town built on a rock, dominated by the Castell del Rei, and declared a historical-artistic site. To access the old part you have to enter a tunnel dug into the mountain, and when you leave there are spectacular views of the entire valley and the Guadalest reservoir. One of the best-known towns on the entire Coast.

The Cova de les Calaveres

In Benidoleig. It consists of 300 m of almost horizontal route in the explored part. It has cavities more than 20 m high and was inhabited more than 50,000 years ago. At the entrance there is a small bar with a children's playground to round off the visit.

The Bernia Mountains

From Xaló we can access the Sierra de Bernia, a car excursion that we often recommend because on the way to the mountain we find the Donkey Sactuary, where the Les Murtes association raises and cares for donkeys of the typical peninsular varieties. Already in the mountains there are a lot of restaurants, in many cases installed in restored farmhouses, and which offer excellent food, and the views of the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park in Calp are spectacular.

The Gallinera Valley

Valley formed by many towns of Moorish origin, so narrow that most cannot be entered by car. Some of them preserve their castles, which can be visited, such as those of Forna and Planes, former domains of the Arab sheikh Al Azraq, the one with the blue eyes. The valley is a producer of cherries and, in addition, you can regularly enjoy wild boar stew in its bars.

The Vall d'Ebo

We recommend visiting the Cova del Rull, rich in stalactites, stalagmites and other formations. It is managed by the town hall, which offers guided tours daily. Just a couple of kilometers away, at the foot of the CV-712 highway and in a small pine forest, is the Nevera de Baix, perfectly preserved, a construction from the 16th century. XVI of Moorish origin to keep snow and make ice. And for lovers of caves and geology, on the way to Pego there is l’Avenc Ample, a chasm 150 m deep accessible only with rappelling equipment.

The coves of Xàbia, Moraira and Calp

In summer we highly recommend exploring the coastal strip that goes from Xàbia to Moraira and Calp, full of coves such as La Fustera, La Barraca, La Granadella, l'Ambolo, and many more. They are small, stone beaches with transparent waters, with Posidonia meadows and lots of marine fauna: octopuses, urchins, and fish of all colors.

The “riuraus” of the Marina Alta

The «riurau» is a construction from the 19th century. XIX of stone and wood, characteristic of the rural architecture of various regions of the Valencian Country, which serves to shelter the reeds with raisins while it rains or is humid. They were the “factory” where the mistela was worked and made, and many of them are restored and can be visited. We highlight the Gran riurau del Senyor de Benissadeví, in Jesús Pobre (Dénia), and the Gran riurau de los Català d'Arnauda, ​​in Xàbia.

Parcent

It is a small town of 700 inhabitants where we recommend its family wineries: the Parcent winery, managed by Armando and Núria, and the Gutiérrez de la Vega Winery, producer of famous white wines such as Casta Diva. They are family-owned, specialized in “signature wines” and give guided tours.

Montgó and Cap de Sant Antoni Natural Park

Between Dénia and Xàbia, the Montgó is the most emblematic mountain of La Marina. It has an Interpretation Center where you can obtain detailed information on the fauna, flora and hiking routes to climb and explore it. The Cap de Sant Antoni is the part of the park that reaches the sea, and from the lighthouse there are beautiful views of the sea and Ibiza.

The second largest town in the region, it shares the Montgó Natural Park with Dénia. Arenal beach and the historical part, the Gothic market and the Church of Sant Bertomeu are worth a visit.

Xaló

Visiting this town is interesting for many reasons: the Verge Pobra de Xaló cooperative offers traditional local products, of quality and at a good price: white and rosé wines, white and red mistela, olive oil, honey, etc.

Every Saturday morning the most famous and varied rastro (object market) in the region is held. And one weekend a month the Mercat de la Terra is celebrated, where local farmers, beekeepers, ranchers and artisans sell their products, and where musical performances and folklore displays take place.
